Rio Bonito Cabin Resort

Just 20 minutes north of Austin, Texas, lies the beautiful city of Round Rock. This area is best known for its variety of outdoor spaces and recreation centers that can suit virtually any lifestyle. While there is no shortage of things to do in Round Rock, we’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite activities and attractions.

1. Catch a Baseball Game

There are lots of things to do in Round Rock, TX.

Play ball! Round Rock residents often enjoy going to a baseball game on one of the stunning diamonds located around the city. You are welcome to join them if baseball is your thing.

Major league sports fans can find their favorite teams in Round Rock! The Round Rock Express is just one home of the Texas Rangers when they’re not at Globe Life Field. Texans love catching their state’s MLB team at this smaller stadium because it provides a (somewhat) calmer viewing experience.

Watch where you sit! Seats near first base often get the most direct sunlight during a game. Consider watching the game from a different angle to avoid the Texas heat. However, no matter where you sit, you’re sure to be in for a great game!

2. Take a Walk

Round Rock’s beautiful landscapes make for the perfect walking and hiking trails. For the history buffs, be sure to visit Chisholm Trail Crossing Park. During the 1800s, the Chisholm Trail was used by traders to drive cattle from Kansas to the Rio Grande.

Today, the park contains numerous bronze statues commemorating those who have walked the trail before. Scattered across the park’s 1.51 acres are plenty of  park benches and tables, so you can bring a picnic lunch and make a day out of it.

Those seeking even more green space will enjoy Old Settlers Park. The park’s 645 acres contain a 20-field baseball complex, a 5-field softball complex, five soccer fields, two football fields, water features, and more. You can find fun for the whole family.

Of course, we would be remiss if we didn’t mention Memorial Park, where you can find the Round Rock. A short hike along Bushy Creek will bring you to the iconic stone, where you can decide for yourself whether or not it lives up to its name.

3. Make a Splash

Swimming is a notable thing to do in Round Rock.

Looking to cool off after a day in the Texas sun? Dive into one of Round Rock’s many pools and water parks!

The Lake Creek Pool is a popular spot for families. As part of the Lake Creek Park complex, the pool can be just one part of a great day spent outside. The park borders the Dog Depot Dog Park, so you can bring your furry friends along, too!

For any kiddos seeking more of a thrill, there’s Kalahari Indoor Waterpark. The 223,000-square-foot facility is packed with water slides, games, and swimming areas for the whole family. Your kids won’t want to go home!

A great middle-ground for those seeking the joy of water slides and the chill atmosphere of a residential pool will enjoy the Rock ‘n’ River Family Aquatic Center. The main features of this fun space include a lazy river, water slides, and a dedicated children’s pool.

4. Shop ‘til You Drop

For the shopaholics, there are ample opportunities to take advantage of the latest sales. Window shoppers will love wandering up and down the streets of Downtown Round Rock. Boutiques and shops of all kinds line the roads.

There are plenty of photo opportunities in the area, as well. Snap a quick picture in front of the water tower or pose in front of one of the many historic buildings dating back to the late 1800s, when the railroad first built tracks in the area.

Antique lovers can appreciate the variety of stores situated around downtown. The Antique Gallery houses all manner of goods, from clothing and shoes to chandeliers and model cars. You can find your next favorite earrings or collect plenty of souvenirs to bring back to your friends.

For a more modern shopping experience, visit La Frontera Shopping Center. This mixed-use development proudly hosts big-name stores such as Burlington Coat Factory and Ulta Cosmetics.

5. Feel the Music

Seeing live music is one thing to do in Round Rock.

Round Rock has a number of great venues that cater to all manner of music lovers.

The Round Rock Tavern and Hoot & Annie takes pride in their wide range of live musical acts. While they mainly promote rock and country artists, they’re certainly no stranger to the local indie scene. On Mondays, they often host karaoke nights, so you can share your talents and feel the beat for yourself!

Looking to get some fresh air while listening to your favorite music? Check out the Round Rock Amp! This huge outdoor music venue offers space for food trucks and additional entertainment, in addition to hosting your favorite artists.
